In just a couple of days you will be celebrating the New Year. With 2016 in clear view, this is the perfect time to reflect upon this year in order to plan to take your business to a new level.

Review your business.

What are some of the things that worked well?  Why were these initiatives successful? (I keep notes on all of my business activities as they occur to help remember and keep track. If you can’t remember all of the things you did to promote your business or projects you worked on, you may want to add a notes page to your project folders to help you as you move forward).

What did you try that did not give you the result you expected? What could you have done to achieve a better result? (This is really important. If you worked on projects that did not do well or implemented strategies that did not give you result, you need to make changes, however, you can’t make informed changes if you don’t know why they were not successful).

Set some goals

What would you like to accomplish in your business next year? Why would you like to accomplish these goals? What steps do you need to take to make it happen?

Instead of just getting into a routine of working the same way you always have, when you set goals you focus on something that is meaningful. So many artist say they want to grow their business, start blogging, get booked for more jobs, work on celebrities or create videos. It’s okay to have these goals, but do you know what you need to do to make it happen?

“Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible to the visible.” – Tony Robbins

To blog you have to know what you want to write about. You also have to know how to set up your blog and develop a strategy for posting, positioning and marketing.

If you want to get booked for more jobs you need to determine the type of jobs you want and be sure you have the skill set required to get those jobs.

For artists working with celebrities, did you realize that your work has to be not good but great? In addition, those jobs are earned. You have to work hard and really be ready personally and professionally to be offered high-profile bookings.

To become a video creator you need to have the ability to write and script great content. You need to know how to shoot a video, edit where needed, upload the video and share it. You also want to create a list of video topics so that you can prepare in advance.

Implement strategies

What do you need to do today to begin working towards your goals for 2016? (Do you need new images for your portfolio? Would marketing yourself to the right people help? Is you kit work ready? Are you planning on updating your blog, take a class, or create videos? )

Write down what you will do for the next 30 days in order to move towards your goals. (It’s time to stop procrastinating and get things done).

Take Notes

Create a system to measure your performance and success.

  • Having a task list with deadlines is a perfect way to check off the things you need to do.
  • Create a code for your advertising or social media strategies to help you figure out what programs and promotions are getting you results.
  • Schedule time on your calendar to focus on getting things done.
  • Update your website, blog, social media banners and marketing materials to make your brand more cohesive.
  • Learn from others who do what you do. Never copy, but implement useful tips and successful strategies to improve.
  • Market with a purpose.
  • Don’t just promote yourself.
  • Offer something of value.
  • Don’t forget about education. Take a class, attend a workshop, watch a webinar or read a book.
  • Network, follow-up and keep in touch.

Wishing you a successful 2016!
